Do good, feel good!

January sees us opening the door to lots of new local causes, which Co-op Members can support just by shopping with us. Our community based Member Pioneers see first-hand the difference this makes — we caught up with three of them to find out more

Jo Higson, Plymouth
‘In my role, I get to see all the fabulous work that goes on across Plymouth. I love visiting causes when they’ve received the money raised by Co-op Members and seeing what a difference it’s made! This year, I’m signing up to support Trevi — an award-winning charity that started as a residential rehabilitation centre for mothers and children. Now they have three centres, and have transformed the lives of thousands of families. As a survivor of domestic abuse, I’m really glad I can contribute to this cause. I shop at Co-op quite a bit, and it’s great to think that everything I buy there will help.’

Naomi Munsele, Liverpool
‘When you sign up and choose a local cause as a Co-op Member, you help amazing groups that work hard to support the community. Being a Member Pioneer means I can make a real difference locally, for example by listening to residents to identify issues that need addressing. The local cause I’m supporting is Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. They do wonderful things to improve the lives of cancer patients. It gives me great joy to know my donations will help them fund a wide range of services around patient care, vital research and the latest technological advances.’

Lisa Crane, Edinburgh
‘For my local cause I’ve chosen Maggie’s Edinburgh, which gives support to people with cancer and their families. I received treatment for breast cancer three years ago, and the help, advice and comfort they provided at such a difficult time was invaluable. I’m so pleased that I can give back through my weekly shop, and I like being able to see the money raised grow on my Co-op Membership app. Being a member, choosing a cause and swiping your card when you shop really makes a difference — thousands of pounds have been raised for the three local causes in my area!’
